Reinhard Geiss

Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF), Jena, Germany
Lithium Niobate Integrated Photonics Group

Title: Wafer-scale Fabrication of Low-loss Lithium Niobate Integrated Photonic Devices

Dr. Reinhard Geiss is physicist specializing in integrated photonics. Since 2022, he has led the Lithium Niobate Integrated Photonics Group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena, Germany. His research focuses on the micro- and nanostructuring of lithium niobate for applications in nonlinear and quantum optics. Dr. Geiss earned his doctorate in 2016 from Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany. He has conducted extended research stays and collaborations with various international institutions, including Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, and the National Central University in Taiwan. In addition to his research, Dr. Geiss is actively involved in education at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, promoting innovative approaches such as establishing a photonics open lab (Makerspace). Since 2018, he served as the Scientific Coordinator of the Max Planck School of Photonics, where he oversaw and developed an integrated doctoral education program with locations distributed throughout Germany.
